0. Binary Release
=================

This package is a portable binary release of KolourPaint for GNU/Linux/x86.

0.1 How to Run
--------------

To run it, double click on the script "kolourpaint" in your file manager.

0.2 Requirements
----------------

As a rule, this package will work in most GNU/Linux distributions released
after August 2002 but not too many years after 2004 (due to frequent ABI
changes in the GNU/Linux world). Specifically, your system must meet the
following requirements:

* glibc 2.2 compatibility

* gcc 3.2 compatible ABI
  (this does _not_ mean you have to compile anything nor have gcc)

* KDE 3.x

* Qt 3 (>= 3.0.5) with threading

* X

If your system doesn't meet these requirements, try locating another binary
package for KolourPaint from either your operating system distributor or
http://kolourpaint.sourceforge.net/download.html.  Alternatively, you can
compile from source (also downloadable from the KolourPaint website).

0.3 Feedback
------------

We are very interested to know whether this package works for you - please
send feedback to <kolourpaint-support@lists.sourceforge.net>. We would
appreciate the following information:

* what binary release you are running (2nd line in this file)
* what GNU/Linux distribution you are using
* whether or not this package works for you

1. What is KolourPaint?
=======================

KolourPaint is a free, easy-to-use paint program for KDE.

It aims to be conceptually simple to understand; providing a level of
functionality targeted towards the average user. It's designed for daily
tasks like:

* Painting - drawing diagrams and "finger painting"
* Image Manipulation - editing screenshots and photos; applying effects
* Icon Editing - drawing clipart and logos with transparency

It's not an unusable and monolithic program where simple tasks like drawing
lines become near impossible. Nor is it so simple that it lacks essential
features like Undo/Redo.

KolourPaint is opensource software written in C++ using the Qt and KDE
libraries.
