I would prioritize the two issues in the exact opposite order as Mr.
Douthat. Furthermore I take offense at his is insinuation that the
perpetration and amplification of misinformation is a liberal
obsession. Facebook, for example, creates a magical universe that
puts each subscriber at its center. This is a very unhealthy way to
get your news. It constantly reinforces the reader's established
views about the world and makes no editorial distinction between
reliable and fake news sources. Facebook allows it's subscibers to
spread and reinforce bad information. This is a perversion of the
concept of free speech. As important as the theft of emails was to
the last Presidential election, the weaponisation of social media
has, potentially, far more grave implications and has given us
America's first troll President created by Facebook and Twitter.
